Desert Care Network welcomes Dr. David S. Filippi to the neurology program to enhance specialty healthcare access in the Coachella Valley. Dr. Filippi is an epileptologist who is proficient in the medical and surgical management of adult and childhood epilepsy syndromes. He has extensive experience in diagnosis and management of demyelinating disease including multiple sclerosis, movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, headaches, and neurodegenerative disorders. His expertise in epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and MS have led to numerous educational speaking engagements with audiences including patients, physicians and other healthcare personnel. Dr. Filippi has extensive experience in vagus nerve stimulation, deep brain stimulation for tremor and Parkinson disease, interpretation of the pediatric and adult electroencephalogram, and intraoperative electrocorticography.
Most recently, Dr. Filippi's research interests have included participation in large multi-center clinical research trials including the American College of Radiology IDEAS trial that developed evidence for the use of amyloid-PET scanning in dementia, and Biogen's POP trial which was a post marketing trial evaluating a new-to-market MS treatment, Plegridy. His previous research has run the gamut of basic and translational neuroscience from MR spectroscopy in rat models of hepatic encephalopathy, to basic developmental genetics in zebrafish, to DNA plasmid immunizations in a mouse model of demyelinating disease.
Dr. Filippi was drawn to Desert Regional Medical Center's neurology program as "The opportunity to participate in the clinical supervision and training of these bright young residents was too good to pass up... if you see a patient alone, you've helped one patient. But if you see a patient with a resident and teach them something about clinical care in the process, you have just touched 1,000 lives.".
Dr. Filippi is accepting new patients and most major insurance plans.
